Muslims started immigrating to the Western countries after both World Wars, and shared in the reconstruction of the countries after the destructive consequences of the wars. These people soon became integral parts of the society. Lately after an intense period of conflicts around the Middle East a substantial new wave of immigrants, many Muslims, have reached Europe. The Muslim population in Europe has grown considerably.

Saadia Hussain arts and crafts teacher at Internationella skola för rättvisa och fred have been invited on behalf of the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the League of Islamic Universities to participate in an International conference on “The Rights and Duties of Muslims in the Western Countries”
The conference is scheduled to take place at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, Egypt on 26-27 April 2010. It will bring together a diverse group of scholars, writers, clergymen, community leaders, political figures, education experts from Northern European countries and Arab and Muslim countries.

The purpose of the conference is to identify and discuss the cultural, social and economic issues facing the Muslims and their families in Western countries. It will also aim at promoting the coexistence of different cultures and the integration of Muslims into the Western Communities towards a Win-Win Situation.

Saadia Hussein has been invited to add knowledge and expertise as a teacher and as an artist living in west. Her experience as well as her professional experience will be an added value for the conference discussion and will contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the conference.

The experience and the outcome from this confrence will be further worked on at the school with the students as part of a bigger project and presented in a form of a exhibition at the school
